Modern Slavery Statement
Modern Slavery and Human Trafficking Statement
This Modern Slavery and Human Trafficking Statement is made by Gardeners Leaves Green in respect of the financial year ending 31 December and sets out the actions we are taking to prevent modern slavery and human trafficking in our business operations and supply chains. Gardeners Leaves Green operates within the horticulture and garden services sector and recognises the responsibility we share to uphold and protect human rights.
Modern slavery is a crime and a serious violation of fundamental human rights. It can take various forms, including slavery, servitude, forced and compulsory labour, bonded labour, and human trafficking. Gardeners Leaves Green is committed to acting ethically and with integrity in all our business dealings and relationships, and to implementing and enforcing effective systems and controls to ensure modern slavery is not taking place anywhere in our own business or our supply chains.
Our Zero-Tolerance Policy
Gardeners Leaves Green has a clear zero-tolerance policy towards all forms of modern slavery and human trafficking. This policy applies to all individuals working for or on behalf of Gardeners Leaves Green at all levels, including employees, agency workers, contractors, volunteers, suppliers, and business partners. We will not knowingly work with any organisation that is involved in or associated with modern slavery, nor will we accept any practices that are inconsistent with our ethical standards.
Our zero-tolerance approach is embedded in our internal policies, codes of conduct, and supplier standards. We expect all those we work with to uphold equivalent principles and to ensure that working conditions throughout their own operations and supply chains are safe, lawful, and respectful of human dignity.
Due Diligence and Supplier Audits
Gardeners Leaves Green recognises that the risk of modern slavery may be heightened in certain parts of the horticultural supply chain, such as seasonal labour, plant nurseries, equipment manufacturing, and transport and logistics. To address these risks, we have implemented a programme of due diligence and supplier audits aimed at assessing and monitoring our suppliers and subcontractors.
All new key suppliers are required to confirm their adherence to our ethical sourcing standards and to provide information on their own policies relating to labour, human rights, and modern slavery. Where appropriate, we conduct desk-based assessments and site visits to review working conditions, recruitment practices, and worker documentation. Our supplier contracts include provisions requiring compliance with applicable labour laws and explicit prohibitions of forced, trafficked, or child labour.
In cases where concerns are identified, we will work with the supplier to implement corrective actions within a clearly defined timeframe. If a supplier fails to make satisfactory improvements, Gardeners Leaves Green reserves the right to suspend or terminate the business relationship.
Reporting Channels and Protection
Gardeners Leaves Green encourages all employees, workers, contractors, and other stakeholders to speak up if they suspect or become aware of any instance of modern slavery or human trafficking in our business or supply chains. Concerns can be raised through internal reporting routes, including designated management contacts and our confidential reporting procedures.
Reports may be made anonymously where permitted by local law, and all concerns will be taken seriously, investigated promptly, and handled sensitively. We are committed to ensuring that no person who raises a concern in good faith suffers any form of retaliation or detrimental treatment as a result of reporting a suspected breach of this Statement or our related policies.
Training, Awareness, and Continuous Improvement
Gardeners Leaves Green is committed to increasing awareness of modern slavery risks among our employees and key suppliers. Training is provided to relevant staff, particularly those involved in procurement, supplier management, and on-site supervision, to help them identify risk indicators and respond appropriately to potential concerns.
We regularly review our processes to strengthen our ability to prevent and detect modern slavery. This includes monitoring evolving best practice, engaging with industry initiatives where appropriate, and refining our due diligence and audit approaches to reflect emerging risks and lessons learned.
Annual Review and Approval
This Modern Slavery and Human Trafficking Statement will be reviewed at least annually to ensure it remains accurate, effective, and aligned with legal requirements and industry expectations. The review will consider feedback from audits, incident reports, and stakeholder engagement, as well as any relevant changes in legislation or guidance.
The updated Statement will be approved by the senior leadership of Gardeners Leaves Green each year and made available to our employees, suppliers, customers, and other interested parties. Through these ongoing efforts, Gardeners Leaves Green reaffirms its commitment to combatting modern slavery and human trafficking and to promoting fair and ethical treatment for all workers connected with our business.
